AutoCAD WS for Mac

Now that AutoCAD is available again for the Mac, we need to address the availability of AutoCAD WS for the Mac.

Recently, the first mobile version was released through the iTunes Store as an app for both iPhone and iPad. This app has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times since launch.

In this post from last week, we wrote about the downloadable AutoCAD WS plugin for AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD LT 2011. At least one person wrote to us asking when there would be a downloadable plugin for AutoCAD for Mac.

The good news is that the program doesn’t need one as AutoCAD WS is already fully integrated into every copy of AutoCAD for Mac!

Just go to the drop-down menu under File and you will find the Upload Drawing Online command.

From here you can create an AutoCAD WS account or log in to your existing account. Once you are logged in your drawing will be uploaded. Just click the View Online button in the open dialog and your browser will open to the AutoCAD WS online app and your successfully uploaded drawing.

Mac users have had to endure years without any kind of AutoCAD support so it’s nice that they get the AutoCAD WS functionality without even having to ask for it!

Is it a coincident in similarities between Autocad WS and AWS (Amazon Web Services (http://aws.amazon.com/) where all these cad files stay!!!

It’s pure coincidence that we share initials with Amazon Web Services. They say that great minds think alike!

This works fine, but Autocad for Mac is still a lot to improve, among other things that make Autocad errors close just like you see on this video:

Would be nice if “preferences” actually existed instead of being blanked out and inaccessible. Would be even better if I didn’t have to wait for my DWG file to upload (more annoying with larger files) instead of just opening and allowing me to sync when I want to rather that have to wait. At this rate, edrawings is a much better alternative for mac for my needs.
