I Shared A DWG. What Will They Get?

In this post we are going to describe exactly what happens after you share a drawing with someone. It’s a straightforward process that is designed to make your work life simpler.

Sharing your work with AutoCAD WS is a secure alternative to sending files via email or using an FTP and it’s just as easy.

You can share a file with anyone as long as you have their email address. They don’t even need a registered account with AutoCAD WS to view your drawing.

The person receiving your email notification:

  • Doesn’t need to have an account
  • Doesn’t need to register a new account
  • Doesn’t have to do anything complicated in order to see the file

The email notification looks like this:

There is a thumbnail of the drawing you are sharing and the person receiving the email has two immediate options:

  1. Download the drawing and save locally in DWG format (just like receiving an attachment via email)
  2. Open the drawing using AutoCAD WS

To open the drawing in AutoCAD WS, he or she can simply click the “View online” link in the email.

As the sharer, you decide which permissions you want to assign per person, per drawing. When you give a user permission to Edit a drawing they can make changes and mark it up. You will be able to see all the changes made from your own account.

If the person receives the email directly to their iPhone or iPad, they should download and install the AutoCAD WS mobile app first. Once they have registered an account using the mobile app, they will be able to open DWG files they receive by mail and save them in their online account.

The username/sender’s name gets garbled, looks suspicious, like spam. Don’t you support unicode/UTF-8?

Hello, which language are you using? Can you send us a sample of the garbled text to feedback@autocadws.com? Thanks you for your help

    Hi Iris,

If you have made an error on an email address when you are sharing your drawing, it
appears greyed out under the share tab within the drawing. How can you remove that
incorrect email address of a person?

    Thanks,

    • Tal

Open the drawing in the editor in the web application. Go to the Share tab. Click on the person who you would like to remove. A small popup will appear containing two checkboxes that allow you to control the share permissions for that user (edit and download) and a “Remove share” button which enables you to remove that person from the list of users with access to that drawing. Use that button to remove.

      Cheers.

can you use keyboard shoutcuts on a ipod touch or a ipad ?

    • Tal

Not right now The mobile interface is much more geared towards a touch and gesture interface, similar to the ones used by other iPhone/iPad app.
