Since the launch of the AutoCAD WS app in the iTunes Store, it’s been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times. Now we want to hear from you. What is it like working with the app?
Is it easy to work with your fingers or do you miss your mouse? Does a smartphone have a big enough screen?
Specifically, would you use your mobile device to create and edit a drawing, or is the app better for viewing work you’ve already done?

But without a copy function its a waste of time!!!!
Aaron October 13 2010
I’d love to use the iphone for edits, but there is just too many functions missing to be useful
Daniel October 14 2010
Hi Aaron, thanks for commenting. Tell us more. What functions are you missing most?
Aaron October 19 2010
Make the iphone version do everything the online version does.
Aaron October 19 2010
There also seems to be a lot of space waisted on the UI.
I would think that you dont need to make the icons much bigger than the keyboard keys.
In landscape, with an object selected, half the screen is taken up with the menus and title bar.

Thanks for that, Aaron. We really appreciate the feedback.

Don’t know yet. Put it out on ANDROID!!!
Daniel October 14 2010
We’re working on it. Stay tuned for updates!
Chris October 19 2010
I agree with crAsh….please put it on the ANDROID market.

need more editing control on existing tools.. i.e. rectangle creation need to be able to
specify size currently you really can only make a rectangle – can’t say make one 10″ by 5′ etc…
also Droid App…
Rodney October 15 2010
It would be nice if you could…
Control layers
Dimention
Copy
Steve October 17 2010
Its got great potential, but we need copy, trim & extend, offset and layers on mobile.
Harry Smith October 17 2010
I don’t need editing so much, but being able to add notes… post-its, would be great.
Also, off-line storage is an absolute must. Most mobile places I go to (and therefore use this app) don’t have a mobile signal rendering this app useless.
Harry Smith October 17 2010
Also adding iDisk support so that we don’t have the limits of your website… 10 uploads a session, come on! A typical project for me might have 120+ drawings to view on site.
Daniel October 18 2010
The call for an offline version has gone out loud and clear, thanks Harry. We’re evolving this product with every release so stay tuned for updates.

will be waiting for a much more advanced version, a full version of Autocad in mobile form.

I like the app as a first step. A layer control tool would be very useful to navigation through complex plans. Why isn’t it possible to create a new file on the iPad? I will use it for a site measuring of our attic. Will report how it worked.
robbie October 18 2010
Very good app for my ipad. I would echo others that OFFLINE is desperatly needed.
Most of my work is outside wifi on greenfields. Would love to use this in this situation.
Dave October 19 2010
We need a Viewer without being online!
Is this possible?
Daniel October 19 2010
Hi there, Dave.
We understand the importance of making AutoCAD WS available offline and we are working on including this functionality in the next release. Stay tuned for updates.
Dave October 19 2010
THANK YOU.
Looking forward to the next release.

Hopefully in future, we can have AutoCAD WS to be run individually in our server rather than AWS. Besides the fact that this way, you have a better control over your files, this will also help to have a better security for individual private drawings. As of now any uploaded file can be viewed online!
Daniel October 20 2010
Hi there, Jay. I assure you that we are as concerned with file security as you are. Your files are stored on the Amazon platform (http://aws.amazon.com/security/) which is compliant with the highest security standards. No one can access your files unless you share them.
Majid@hotmail.com October 19 2010
Put it on Android PLEASE!!!!!
TONY October 19 2010
ANDROID! I’d care more about viewing than editing for now. I’m sure the mobile processors need to get more powerful for higher Civil 3D functions. Accessing surface data in a mobile setting would help engineers & surveyors in the field.

That’s an awesome article you posted.

As soon as I found out AutoCADWS was available, I felt my puchase of an iPad paid for
itself. I teach AutoCAD at a community college and can have my assignments ready to
show to students directly on the iPad without the need to log into the network and fire up
AutoCAD. GREAT APP!
I have noticed that the diameter symbol does not always translate within a dimension, and
that line weights do not translate either. It would be wonderful if you could choose to view
what is on a 2D layout tab, since we heavily use paper space in class for our 3D models.
I definately recommend this to other AutoCAD users!

A simple copy would be excellent. We use AutoCad to create our electrical schematics and in order to duplicate a part, it must be drawn again. With a copy function, we could justify this product across our whole company for mobile editing and for service calls in the field.
